Acubis collaborated with a client in the Mining Industry in NSW for the design and deployment of a state-of-the-art remote communications tower at its site, supporting greater efficiency and safety of their operations.
This innovative 30-metre tower, powered by 18 solar panels, supports the Mine’s operations with a reliable, standalone communications and power system. This unit is designed for ease of transportation and rapid deployment making it flexible enough to be relocated as the mine’s requirements evolve.
The tower supports a fully installed and commissioned Motorola Turbo Repeater Site, including a Cambium licensed PtMP (Point-to-Multi-Point) and PtP (Point-to-Point) systems to provide high-capacity, stable communication links. The 8.1kW solar standalone power system more than adequately meets the power needs of the unit and its communication shelter.
Acubis Senior Project Manager, Ross Campbell, worked closely with the client, who is looking forward to reaping the benefits of the new communications infrastructure.
“Acubis has designed and delivered a minesite communications system that we feel confident will meet the needs of the mine well into the future. Our aim was to supply a robust communications platform that could stand up to the harsh conditions for long periods of time but could be moved easily and quickly if required,” said Ross.
This modular temporary communications unit has been designed around AS 1170 and AS 3995 and is suitable for general communication, lighting or surveillance purposes. It is suitable for deployment periods of up to five years in a single deployment cycle.
Acubis arranged transporting the oversize load to the location, facilitating smooth delivery to the site. The installation of the unit was then carried out by Acubis’ expert Rigging and Technician teams, ensuring precision and safety throughout the process. In addition to electronic communications skills, deploying these towers requires working at heights and tower rescue formal qualifications.
Acubis has many years’ experience designing communications systems to meet the specific needs of mining clients, including Glencore, Yancoal and BHP. Acubis also designs and installs fixed guyed towers and mobile communication units that can be easily towed to the site. Acubis also arranges the necessary ACMA licensing for the communication systems, ensuring full compliance with regulations.
